HUTT VALLEY VISITORS \ A RIED PROG RA MM E The visiting Hutt Valley Y.M.C.A. party, undei the managership of Mr. A. C. Edwards, after spending several days in "Wanganui, will return by the noon express to-day. During their sojourn in Wanganui they have enjoyed a full programme of entertainment, in addition to participating in interassociation contests with the local Y.M.C.A. On Tuesday morning indoor athletics found the local team showing to ad- ' antage, f-he competitions comprising high jump, standing long jump and hop, step and jump, in addition to relays with teams of five-a-side. Hedge (Hutt Valley), J9ft. lliiu.. 2; E. Jones (Wanganui), 19ft. 9in., 3. In the relay race Wanganui beat Hutt Valley by 4 points to 3. In the afternoon a soccer match was played on Victoria Park, the visitors, 1 hough handicapped through not knowing the ground conditions, managed to hold the Wanganui team to a draw, three goals all. They held the lead till within five minutes of the final whistle. The visitors and the local boys were entertained at the Regent Theatre at the evening programme. Wednesday morning was free for the boys to enjoy a tour round points uf interest in the city, while the afternoon was spent in outdoor athletics on Victoria Park, where Hutt Valley defeated Wanganui by the narrow margin of 18 points to 17. The results were as follows: 190 Yards.—Casbolt (Wanganui) J, Hedge (Hutt) 2, Fairbairn (Hutt) 3. 220 Yards.—Casbolt (Wanganui) 1, Fairbairn (Hutt) 2, Gibson (Wanganui) 3. 440 Yards.—Hedge (Hutt) 1, Catbolt (Wanganui) 2, Hume (Hutt; 3. 440 Yards.—Hutt Valley J, Wanganui 2. Prepared speeches were delivered at the Y.M.C.A. in the evening, Air. E. H. Kowntree being the judge. The results were:—Garvitch (Hutt), 72 points J. Walton (Wanganui), 69 points, 2. Tutty (Wanganui) 63 points 3. Three others competed. Un the aggregate of points Hutt Valley won by 192 tu 184. After the speeches the teams adjourned to the gymnasium where dodgeball and basketball were played. Wanganui .drawing with Hutt in th-’ former, and defeating the visitors by 16 goals to 6 in the basketball. Yesterday morning at the racecourse a Rugby match was played, Wanganui defeating Hutt by 20 points to 3. This event concluded the tournament, in which Wanganui defeated the visitors by 34* points to 23*. In the afternoon the visitors and the local boys were taken on a motor trip to several points of vantage from which they obtained excellent views of ihe city and surroundings, including Virginia Lake and the Memorial Tower. Another visit tu the pictures, as guests at the Plaza Theatre, concluded the day’s activities. This morning, prior to taking their departure, the visitors will be tendered an official farewell at the Y.MZ-’.A. at 10 a.m., afterwaids paying a visit of inspection to the 4'Chronicle” office. In expressing appreciation of the hospitality extended the Hutt Valley party,-the manager, Mr. Edwards, informed the “Chronicle” last night that the boys had had a wonderful time, every minute of which they had enjoyed. He hoped that within the near future the Hutt Valley boys , would have the opportunity to rccipro- ■ ate, and looked forward to the Wanganui boys* visit to take pla<e al as I convenient a vacation next year.
