PLUNKET SOCIETY

CAVALCADE OF FASHION SUCCESSFUL ENTERTAINMENT One of the brightest entertainments held in connection with the .Plunket Society’s baby photographic exhibition xxas the “Cavalcade of Fashion” held in the D.I.C. Tearooms last evening. The object was to augment the society’s Lunds, and the many supporters of Plunket rallied to the assistance of the president, Airs 11. D. Robertson, and her energetic committee. An excellent programme was given and xvas greatly enjoyed by the large audience. Miss Nancy Hanna, of Auckland, sang delightfully several songs, “A Birthday,” “All On a Summer’s Day,” and “Could I But Express in Song,” being among the numbers. Airs H. D. Robertson played the accompaniments. A humorous sketch, “Old Moore’s Almanack,” presented by Mr fan Forlong, caused mu'ch laughter, those taking part were Mrs IL Gilbert!, Aliss H. Bogle, Aliss Watters, Alessrs Nolan and Quill. Dressed m appropriate costumes, Aliss Joan Graham and Aliss Margaret Brinkman gave “The Old Pig and Whistle,” very cleverly. It was with pleasurable anticipation that the audience awaited the parade. The first part xvas deci ledly mirth-pro-voking, the mannequins displaying morning wear worn by the belles of long ago. A white pique costume with umbrella shaped skirt and coat basque was xvorn xvith a large black lace hat of ancient design, while another cos* tume of a similar period was surmounted by a straw hat of the nineties. Black taffeta frocks, beaded dolmans, ruched tapes, Maltese lace collars, and bonnets figured in the next section. Then came the afternoon gowns, followed by the “cocktail hour” frocks. Peals of laughter greeted the wearers of the creations shown in this section They wore of the styles when xvaist lines were anywhere but in the correct place, skirts revealed the knees, and odd panels floated at the sides. Under the heading of “Wedding Chimes,” some beautiful treasures of another century were shown. The brocaded silks and taffetas, and rich lace were of a marx'ellous texture. It was as though the figures had just stepped from a pivture frame. Some of the gowns with thei" redirgote effect, bustles, double puff sleeves, over-skirts, and fichus, were wonderful creations of past days and evoked exclamations of delight. One bride carried a fr/ly parasol o c small dimensions. The mannequins thoroughly entered into the spirit of the occasion and xvere xvai'nily applauded at the eorchisiou of the “Cava.lcade of Fashion.” Plunket supporters who acted as mannequins so delightfully were Mrs. F. Hutchison, Mrs. T. Wilbcrfoss, Mrs. Ralph Brown, Airs. E. H. Bernau, Misses Monica Robertson (Wellington), who kindly took Miss J Graham’s place, Ngaire Russell, Margaret Smith and Margaret Brinkman. r l he “Potted Revue,” presented by Mr. George Allen, included the following items: Elocution, Aliss Lee; “A Little Bit of Scotch,” Miss’ Zelda Watts; tap (lances by the Rex Boys and Ix’y Mikkleson; club swinging. Mina Watts. Supper xvas served at small tables in a delightfully informal manner, members of the committee helping the D.I.C, staff. Among those present, were:—Dr. and Mis. H. D.
