“THE PARAMOUNT GIRL”

MISS ROSSLYN’S RETURN TO APPEAR AT REGENT Miss Nita Rosslyn is scheduled to appear in Wanganui under the J. C. Williamson Picture Corporation banner as the “Paramount girl in red,” heralding the advent of the new show season, “Paramount Week,” which commences on .September 2. Miss RAsslyn xvill appear on the Regent stage for a season of three days, commencing to-day. This evening the Mayor. Mr. W. J. Rogers, will formally welcome Alias Rosslyn and introduce her to the audience. He will also ask her to accept from the citizens of Wanganui a document of greeting to the Lord Mayor of London. Known all over the xvorld as the “Girl in Red,” Miss Nita Rosslyn arrived at Wanganui yesterday morning on her scarlet cycle after a tour of the Taranaki districts, including the circular tour of Mt. Egmont. This plucky Lancashire lass left England over five years ago, on a cycling tour of the world and has now covered 42,000 miles, in all weathers, at all times of the day, and over every class of road on her cycle, weighing over 100 pounds. She comes to the Dominion as a civic envoy from Great Britain, rep resenting over ■ ,, ' ) o principal centres in the United Kingdom, and carried civic documents of greetings from every Lord Mayor, every Lord Provost, and the Mayoralties concerned. Miss Rosslyn has already delivered greetings to mmy centres in New Zealand including namesake places, and in turn is carrying back complimentary documents of greetings, bearing the seat of the respective towns concerned; in this way her tour is of distinct service to the Empire as it is acting as a link between the old and the new world. Miss Rosslyn is the fortunate possessor of a soprano voice of exceptional range and quality—having studied at the Royal Conscrvatorio of Milan, Italy. She has made nearly 3000 appearances on concert platforms and theatres since the commencement of her tour, her repertoire including songs and arias iu Spanish. Italian, Portuguese and French languages. The lady cyJist is looking a picture of health in ?.pite of her many hardships and ti>e i ’ement weather. Having had so many narrow escapes from death amidst traffic, she designed an all-scarlet riding suit and this striking appearance has <nrned for her the soubriquet of the “Girl in Red.”
