Wanganui forty years ago, ami provided the means whereby many people were enabled to provide themselves with homes. The original building society was formed just at the conclusion of the 1885-1895 depression at a. lime when there was a decided house shortage in Wanganui. Almost similar circumstances exist to-day in Wan- | ganui and there is an unquestioned dej mand for a local society, whereby • people can invest and control their savings. There is no reason whatever I why money should go out of Wanganui to another c’.tj, while the adoption of | the group system enables finality to be I readied and the profits divided I amongst the members of the gre-up •within a reasonable time. Krom communication received by the ' conveners, it is anticipated that the first group will be filled in record time. All interested are urged to attend the preliminary meeting to-morrow cveni ing at 8 p.m. in the City Council 1 Chambers.
