JEWELLER’S SHOP ON FIRE
EVIDENCE OF BUBGLABY I Per Press Association. ] WHANGAREI, Aug. 26. An outbreak of fire late last night in Julius Maurer's jeweller’s shop, Cameron Street, led to the revelation of a daring burglary, a number of valuable articles being taken. The intruders jenimied their way in through a window and a heavily barred door. The Fire Brigade found the shop floor bestrewn with articles of jewellery and a smouldering mattress alongside the door of the strongroom, which the thieves had failed to force, thereby missing a rich hand of goods and a deposit of £l5O belonging to a radio dealer next door. Considerable damage Was done to the stock in the shop by fire, water, and smoke.
