Howie, who has been on the teaching staff of the school for the past ; five years, and who recently tendered s her resignation to take up a position at 1 the, Central School, Hastings, at the end . bf the current school holidays. Mr. J. (. \\ hiblev. the headmaster, d eulogised the services rendered by Miss Howie during her association with the school and wished cverv success in s her new sphere. The presentation was ; then made by the head girl prefect of the primary department, on behalf of the pupils and staff. Miss Howie returned thanks in a L ‘ neat little speech, during which she referred to her happy association with ’ the school and added that she could not > help but feel sad now that the time had c come to say “good-bye.’‘ Three hearty cheers were then given for Miss Howie. Her successor will be Miss B. Uarnaehan. Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Justice, a addressed the electors in the Town I Hall on Friday evening, and was accorded a most attentive hearing. Hintz was celebrated at Tahape on Saturday morning and aroused considerable interest. The reception was held at the Gretna Hotel, the entrance to which was tastefully decorated with large ferns for the occasion. The five Taihape members > of the Rangitikei Primary School Rugby team to compete in the quadrangular tourney at New Plymouth, loft by the 10.10 a.m. train on Friday, and will bp away about a. week. The Taihape boys comprised Colin Doyle and T. Taylor (Convent School), J. Harding, L. Martin and B. Niven (Taihape Disirict High School).
