Tire first tennis Test,, comprising two singles and one doubles each io day and Monday, began m bright breezy weather. In the singles Quist (Australia) defeated Kirby (South Africa), 6-3, 6 —3, and Crawford (Australia) defeated Farquharson (South Africa), Jn the doubles Crawford and Quist defeated Farquaharson and Musgrove 6—3, 6—4, 4 —6, 6 —l. Die match between Crawford and Farquharson was the mc-st thrilling seen in South Africa for years. Buth played tennis of a high standard. E’arquharoon was stronger at. tho net but Crawford’s hard driving prevailed. STEDMAN’S SINGLES NORTH ENGLAND TITLE I Received Aug. 25, 7.5 p.m LONDON, Aug. 24. At Scarborough the North of England tennis championship finals resulted:— Men’s Doubles.—Wilde and Butler defeated Lyttelton-Rogers and Stedman 6 —S, 6—3, 6 —4, 7—5. Men’s Singles.-—Stedman defeated Lyttelton-Rogers 6—3, 6 —3. Rogers was most nervous and lacked his usual brisk style. U.S.A. AND BRITAIN BROOKLINES TOURNEY Received Aug. 25, 7.5 p.m. NEW YORK, Aug. 24. At the Brookline tournament yesterday Miss Jacobs and Mrs. PalfreyFabyan (U.S.A.) defeated Misses Lyle and Dearman (Britain) B—6, 6—4. In the final Miss Jacobs and Mrs. Pai-frcy-Dabyan defeated Misses Andrus and Babcock 6—4, 6—2.
