SHEEPSKINS AND HIDES

WELLINGTON MARKETS FIRM There was 'a very firm market for sheepskins, hides and tallow at the sale held on Friday by the Wellington brokers. There was a stronger demand for sheepskins, exporters being well in the market for all descriptions. As compared with late quotations, prices generally were jd to bl dearer. Halfbreds sold to Bsd. Fine crossbreds to Bd, medium, crossbreds to 7sd, and coarse crossbreds to Salted skins wore from 6d to 9d each higher. Hides also met good competition, exporters and tanners buying the bulk of the offerings. Heavies showed little change, and medium and light weights were l-8d to |d better. Kip were inquired for at prices l-8d to }d in advance of late rates. Yearlings and heavy calf ruled firm, while light weight calf appreciated id to id. Calf 6/81 b sol dto 93d: l/51b to 9sd. Tallow was very firm, shipping parcels being in special demand. Prices appreciated Is to lg 6d per cwt, and at times 2s.
