"A Birching Needed.”
“'Diev need a good birching. 'That •s what they want for doing that sort, of damage,” said Mr. E. C. Ecvvey, S .M.. in the Christchurch Magistrate’# Court, referring Io two youths charged with wilfully damaging the surface of the New Brighton Bowling Club’s greens Io the extent of £lO, thereby committing mischief. The two youths lived next to the bowling green, said Senior-Sergeant Cahvell. A high fence separated the green from their backyard, and the entrance’to the green w.as kept locked. The youths climbed over the fence and used the green for kicking a tennis ball about. The sum of £K> was a moderate estimate of the damage done. The green had to be almost completely relaid, and he under-, stood that this would cost about £5O.
