The new programme commencing tc day at the Majestic Theatre is headei by 4 ‘Reckless an entertaining pictur which provides an unusual cumbinatioi I of drama and music, with Jean Harlow I the popular “platinum blonde,” win has not been seen locally foj sonu time, in a refreshingly vital role. N< I fewer than four new song numbers 1 several of which are sung by Jeai | Harlow with full orchestral and balle accompaniment, are introduced. The; are, “Reckless,” the thenfe songs; “H Diddle Dee Dum, ” “Everything’, Been Done Before,” and “Hear Wha My Heart is Saying.” Opposite .Mis: Harlow, William Powell and Francho: Tone share the honours, while Nint Mac McKinney, the coloured slagi star, appears with success. A niosi human characterisation is that ol Granny, by May Robson. The film with its spectacular scenes, it’ music its comedy, its fine story, holds the close interest of the audience throughout. its dialogue is interesting anc witty, while its situations are dra matic, and there is a charming romance, with plenty of comedy to ease the tension. The “shorts” include “When the Cat’s Away,” a charming and amusing cartoon; “{Show Kids.” a sparkling revue in colour, into which some wonderful juvenile talent is introduced; and the popular Cincsound Australian Review. which shows, amongst other things, the New Zealand hockey girls in action, and the Australian table tennis i championships. Charles Laurence’s comments in thif- review are very witty.
