PRISONERS SENTENCED

Tthe L ’■ " prisoners were sentenced by ■ r: For theft as a servant, George Diack, two years’ reformative detention; for breaking, entering and theft, Francis Xavier Toohill, three years’ imprisonment; for breaking, entering and theft, William Campbell Wilson, three years’ imprisonment; and declared habitual; for breaking, entering and theft, Alfred Jeffrey, five years’ imprisonment and declared habitual.

( Per Press Association. ) HAMILTON, Aug. 22. The following prisoners were sentenced at. the {Supreme Court by Air. Justice Callan: Ernest Edwiu Newton, aged 22, and Graham Wilfred Morton, aged 24, for breaking, entering, and theft at Waharua, were sentenced to three years’ hard labour, while Don Rudolph Alelrosc, aged 23, who pleaded guilty to participation in the same series ot offences, was sentenced to two J ears and six months’ hard labour. John Henry Wilson, aged 23, found guilty of receiving stolen goods, was sentenced to two years' hard labour. Leslie Jack Davis, aged 24, for breaking, entering, and theft, received three years’ hard labour. His Honour remarked: “T wish to say publicly that in my judgment the conducting of the investigations in both those cases by the police was highly creditable The ponce have served society well. This should be a warning to others that it does not pay to prey on society.” Elsie Clara Howie, aged 44, of Taumarunui, was found guilty with a recommendation to mercy of keeping and selling liquor in a proclaimed area. She was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. vVilliam James Blackman, of Taumarunui, similarly charged, was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment.
