ORDER FIXING DUTIES I British Official Wireless, j Received Aug. 22. 7.5 p.m. RUGBY. Aug. 21. I he Ireasury has issued an order on the recommendation of the Import Duties Advisory Committee fixing as «rom August 27 tho duties on unwrouglvt; lead ami zinc at. 7s 6d ami 12s 6d :i ton, respectively, nr 10 per cent, ad whichever is the less.
The change is in response to representations regarding the working of the world price formula embodied in the Ottawa agreements. The Governments of Canada. Australia ami India have accepted the abrogation of the Ottawa provision and the new arrangements are the subject of an understanding between producers, consumers and the London metal exchanges. The. committee indicate that the .ar-
rangements are an experimental compromise subject to reconsideration at need. The main feature is the substitution of a specific duty as stated for tho present 10 per cent. duty, with no obligation on either side either to supply or buy Empire metal.
