HARBOUR BOARD AFFAIRS ACTIVITIES DURING JULY The monthly meeting of the. Wanga nui Harbour Board was held at Castlecliff on Monday. Mr. W. Morrison presiding. Also in attendance were Messrs. G. Morrison, T. Mitchel], G. Siddells, D. Ross, W. G. Robertson, G. Patterson, G. F. Millward and Captain G. White. Apologies were received from Messrs* W. J. Rogers and R. Farley. The chief mechanical engineer (Mr. E. Hibbard) reported as follows: — Cool .Stores. —Additional storage space is being provided for egg chilling, owing to the quantity offering for storage increasing annually, the pres ent space available has become inadequate. Kaione.—The reconditioning and painting of the discharge pipe -line, hopper combings and deck fitting is at present on hand. Launch Karere. —A new benzine carBuretor has been fitted to the launch engine. The old benzine-kerosene vaporiser type was discarded owing to replacements being unprocurable. General. —Repairs to ironwork for stone trucks and alterations to hand ■winches for the moles have been carried out. All plant in commission is working satisfactorily. The following is the report of the foreman, Mr. R. C. Coss: Slip. —One of the New Zealand Refrigerating Co. barges and the motor lighter Morning Light were placed on the slip and refloated. Ballymena House.—New iron has been put on to the roof of this building, the best of the old iron taken or to be used where suitable. Necessary alterations have boon carried out to the premises, the upstair portion being now converted into a residential flat. With the exception of a few small jobs the work is complete. These minor matters will btt attended to when the building next door is far enough advanced to enable the same to be done. Hardy Transport Co. Building.—One wall of this building was repaired and covered with corrugated iron. Riverview House. —Mino r repairs were effected to the building, the yard regraded and drained. Cool Stores. —A new partition has heed erected, thus enlarging the egg chilling room. Castlecliff Wharf. —Two new beams were put in replacing two that were decayed and weak. The harbourmaster (Captain F. E. Naylor) reported:— Tug Kahanui.—During the month was in attendance of s.s. Parracombe. Boilers under steam 10$ hours. Engines under steam hours. Coal consumed 2| tons. Coal taken on board, July 31, 20 tons. Coal remaining on board 48 tons. Bucket Dredge.—During the month was working in basin off No. 2 ami 3 wharves. Time lost during month was 20 hours, as follows:—Weat Her, 5 hours; shifting moorings, dredge, etc., (j hours; coaling, 5 hours; on account delays through shipping, 4 hours. Dur ing the month 401 punt loads from No. 2 wharf and Jfll punt loads from No. 3 wharf were dredged, a total of 502 punt loads of approximately 8092 cubic yards. The reports were received.
