Meteorological Office, 'Wellington, Tuesday, August 20, 1 p.m. General Situation.—Following a rapid rise on Monday night pressure has fallen again to-day .with the passage of a low pressure wave over the South Island. An intense anti cyclone lies centrally over South-eastern Australia and extends on to the western and northern portions of the Tasman Sea. Forecast.- Winds: Westerly at first in the Cook Strait area, but otherwise south-westerly prevailing, strong in the far north and south, elsewhere moderate but freshening again soon. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough to high north of Cape Egmont, elsewhere rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong south west winds of gale force in the southern portion; seas rough. Weather: Fair at first in eastern districts, otherwise changeable with scattered showers. Some hail show ers likely on parts of the coast. Temperatures cold.
