ELLIOT DEFENDS SUBSIDY LONDON, July 1». ’ The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Walter Elliot), defending the proposed extension of the cattle subsidy, declared in the House of Commons that tho fall in food prices since 1925 was equivalent to £230,000,000 yearly, benefiting the working class almost exclusively. He urged that a proportion of that money should be used to maintain farm wages of produce for home foodstuffs. The. Bill was read a second, time by 148 votes to 34.
