Shrub Poisons Cows. As a result of a IDargaville resident losing two cows by poisoning recent!/ the stock inspector sent portion of the shrub that is thought, to have been the cause of the (rouble to the Government department concerned. A reply was received stating that the shrub is oestrum aurantiacum, a member of the potato family containing strong narcotic poison, which would be fatal co stock eating the leaves in any quantity. The shrub xuspeeted of causing the poisoning in this district was fully 12ft. in height and it bore orange flowers. The leaves were eaten off as far as a cow eoui_ reach. Within 21 hours both cows were dead, despite the efforts of a stock inspector to save one that appeared to have a hope of recovery. The leaf of the shrub is about 12in. in width.
