A Presentation Miss C. L. Connor, Dominion secretary of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, who has announced her resignation as from .September next, was preesnted with a silver tea and coflee set with a tray. Airs. C. K. Wilson, the new president, in handing tne gift to Aliss Conner, paid a warm tribute to the secretary’s efficiency and enthusiasm. A Piano Ballet One of the spectacles in “GoldD.ggers of 1935”—a lavish entertainment packed with comedy—is the piano ballet, beventy beautiful girls garbeu in long flowing white frocKs dance on seventy pianos. The pianos also dance, or at least they manoeuvre around the room in most novel fashion while the girls are seated on stools in front of them playing on the keys. At the end of the ballot the pianos—which are white—move to tne centre of the room and all fit together in the manner of a jig-saw puzzle. An American Version In one section of a picture al present being screened in Wanganui we see performers practising a dance for a charity entertainment. In this particular dance, of which only a briet glimpse is given, an American version of part of the New Zealand Maori haka and part of the “Canoe” dance is introduced. Ladies’ Auxiliary The first birthday of the Gonville Methodist Ladies’ Auxiliary was celebrated on Thursday afternoon with a happy function held at the residence of Airs. E. U. Gamble, Gonville. Good wishes from the Trinity Church Ladies’ Auxiliary were conveyed by Airs. Goodcy. The birthday cake was cut by Airs. Ashworth (president). Airs. Wills, Airs. Goodey, Misses Lamian, Laurent and Bateman contributed items, Aliss Merle Spurdhe playing the accompaniments.

A Happy Function As a conclusion it> (he annual conference of the Women’s Division or Hie Farmers’ Union in Wellington, a happy social function was held at (he Mayfair Cabaret on Friday evening, when a bon* 500 delegates ami visitors were present. Airs. Ward (president), who was handed a bouquet of flower.?, welcomed all present with special mention of the members of the Farmers’ Union, who had, like the women, taken an evening off. Airs. Ward said that the women had distributed £2200 in cash, and of that £5OO had gone to other organisations for special hqlp.
