GOLFER FAREWELLED MR. R. J. CARRUTHERS. GATHERING OF SEAFIELD MEMBERS. There was a gathering of members of the Sea field Golf Club at the Rendezvous on Wednesday night for the pur pose of bidding farewell to the club’s vice-captain, Mr. R. J. Carruthers, who is leaving Wanganui to enter practice as a solicitor at Woodville. Mr. G. 11. Trott, president of the club, presided, and at the head table was supported by members of the committee. Making a presentation to the guest of the evening, Mr. Trott referred in eulogistic terms to the services Mr. Carruthers had rendered the club in his capacity as vice-captain, and to his work in regard to the club’s social activities. He regretted Mr. Carruthers’ departure from Wanganui, but extended wishes for a happy and prosperous future. As a mark of esteem in’ which we was held at Seafield, Mr. Trott presented the guest with a solid leather suitcase. The gift carried with i it a united expression of goodwill from I all the members, and would serve to remind the recipient of the happy days he had spent as a member of the club. Proposing the toast “The Departing Guest.” Mr. C. G. Young endorsed the remarks made bv Mr. Trott. Messrs. A. G. Mackay. G. R. Haldane, R. D. Smart, and G. Darbyshire added tributes to the energy and interest Mr. Carruthers had taken in the club's welfare. Replying, Mr. Carruthers said that in many respects he was soriy to be leaving Wanganui, and one of the main reasons wKs that he would be leaving the Seafield Club. He indeed had had many pleasant tin es in association with <*lub members, all of whom were good sports and pulled Together well in the club’s interests. “F wish the club all success in the future,” he said, “and I will treasure your gift very highly.” Mr. R. D. Smart proposed the toast of “Kindred Sporting Bodies,” which was responded to by Messrs 0. S. Brown (tennis and golf), G. Darbyshire (golf), and K Manley (boxing). Mr. A. G. Mackay paid a high tribute to the Seafield Club officials, Mr. S. Irwin, one of the former club captains, i eplying. The foacf of “The Press” was proposed by Mr. A. D. Kitto and capably responded to by Messrs L. C. Young (“Chronicle”), and S. V. Smith (Herald). The gathering spent a happy time, a programme of musical, vocal and elocutionary items, together with community singing, enlivening the proceedings. Items were contributed bv Messrs. G. H. Trott, B. Hoar, C. G. Young, H. Edmondson, C. S. Brown, and J. Broad. Mr. R. Oliver officiated at the piano. Proceedings terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” SEAFIELD CLUB CANADIAN FOURSOMES. At. Seafield Golf Links to-morrow Canadian Foursomes will be played. Players will arrange their own partners where possible. Mr. S. T. The Stableford Bogey is played on points allotted as follows;—One point for lover bogey, 2 for a bogey, 3 for a birdie and 4 for a.n eagle, the Bogey handicap is then added on and the player with the most points is the winner.
