HARBOUR BOARD AFEAIRS MONTHLY MEETING HELD. The monthly meeting of the Wanganui Harbour Board was held at, Castlecliff yesterday. Mr. W. Morrison presiding. The following members were also present: .Messrs. .1. E. Millward, J. Morrison, T. Mitchell, \\ . J. Roger.'. J. Patterson, R. Farley. D. Ros.', J. Robertson and Captain While. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. J. Sid dells. The harbourmaster (Captain F. hNaylor) reported as follows: Tug Kahanui. (During, the, month wa# in attendance on in.v. Embank on arrival and fueling ship the day before Iter departure. The Kahanui left for Wcdiington on the morning of 11th. to go on patent slip for annual survey and painting hull and drawing of tailshafts. Re turned to Wanganui on morning of 15th. ti bo completed at Wan ganui. Boilers 93 hours Engines under 57 hours. Coal consumed 19& tons. Coal remaining ou board 2.1 j tons. 'l’he condition :>f the vessel waa good, the only work required to be done in Wellington was the renewal of the four rudder pintles. The soft iron straps which were tacked on the sides of the hull to prevent pitting are serving the purpose for which they were intended and appear to have arrested any further pitting. Bucket Dredge. Resumed dredging on June 5, at No. 3 wharf. On 14th. shifted dredge to basin entrance. Time lost, dredging during month as follows:—-Shifting moorings 6 hours, renewing wire fall on bucket ladder and pins hopper punt door 9 hours, account of shipping. Flood in river and rough weather 23 hours. Bunkers replenished as convenient during delays. During the month 111 punt loads from No. 3 vvhari and 21'1 punt loads from basin entrance, approximately 4,992 cubic yards were dredged. The Damaged Crane. The chief mechanical engineer (Mr. IT. Hibbard) reported that the undamaged parts of the crane which cup.-dzed while working on the South Spit wharf were being dismantled and protected from deterioration. Tho boiler, with the, exception of a lew broken mount ing.-, is practically undamaged, 1 ’ t will require hydraulic testing to prove any defects. Mr. Hibbard also report*) 1 that the refrigerating plant of the cool stores is undergoing inspection and overhaul. Tho work is being carried out during the period the plant is not operating. The Foreman’s Report. The foreman (Mr. R. C. Gross) re ported that during the, month ol June repairs to the slip buildings had been carried out. A portion of the she Is had teen painted and the remainder will be completed in duo course. The launch Kunishi was lifted on to the, wharf for annual inspection. The hull passed inspection, requiring only a small amount of repairs; new beltings were fitted. The launch is now in con»mission again. A portion of the Castlecliff Wharf at the corner between No. 1 and No. 2 wharves proved to be weak. This has J been strengthened rind reconditioned land should now be equal to the work. Further decking has been renewed as opportunity offered. The docking on the Town Wharf has been patched in bad places. '.l’he reports were rec ci \ cd.
