WOMEN S INSTITUTE. The monthly meeting of the Women’s | institute was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Beilski ((resident) presiding over a. very good attendance, including a number of visitors. There was considerable correspondence, comprising appeals for help from the Willard Home, the Blind Institute, and the Eree Ambulance. Alenibcrs are to bring goods for a hamper Io be seal io the tVillard Home. An appeal was also made for clothing for a deserving ( .use in the district. Il was decided to leave lhe matter of purchasing a crate ui’ goods from the Blind Institute, until i later in the year. The remits Io be dealt with at lhe Do.ninion annual conference in Auckland next week were discussed. 'i’he demonstration for the afternoon was given by Airs. Talbot, her subject being tailored buttonholes and other .ailoring hints. At the close of this instructive deinonstrtion Airs. Talbot was accorded a, very hearty vote of thanks. Following the demonstration, a roll call for sewing hints proved very interesting. The competitions for the afternoon were the best knitted sock (child’s), and an eggless cake. As some of the rakes were sponges and some contained fruit, this competition was divided into two classes. For the sponges, Airs. Monk was awarded first prize, Airs. Blackler 2, and Aliss L. Reilly 3. Fruit: Mrs. Haythorne 1, Airs. L. AlcMnllan 2. Mrs. Beilski 3. Child's sock: Miss L. Keilly I, Airs. Monk 2, Mis. J. Fraser 3. For the August meeting there will be a talk on home nursing by Airs. D. B. McGregor. The competitions >.ill be the best dressed doll in wool, also plate of six varieties of biscuits. The hostesses will be Alesdames Jones, Dcroles, Fox, Janies, and Aliss A. Kreger. The meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem. HALL COMMITTEE. The annual meeting of the Hall Com inittec was held on Friday evening, Mr. B. A. Meads presiding over a very good attendance. The financial report showed a credit balance of over £4O. I’he committee for the ensuing year was elected as follows:—Chairman, Mr. S. A. Meads; secretary and treasurer, Mr. S. J. Morgan; commit’tee, Messrs. \V. E. Bushier, I). T. Couper, H. Fank hauser J. L’arpy, E. Blarkler, J. Mar tin, T. Morgan, McKenzie, F. Thompson, C. Smith, J. Watt and N. Sa y we 11. It, was decided to purchase oilcloth and put on the supper room tables. A working bee will bo held in the near future to effect several repairs. RUGBY FOOTBALL. The senior football team played Kim bolton on lhe home ground on Saturday, ami were the victors by 15 points to 5. The game was very hard fought throughout. Kimbolton were unfortunate in losing the services of P. Lewis through an injury. Scores were registered for the home team by G. Gibbs, M. Thompson. D. Thompson, and D. Hight. S. McMillan kicked a penalty goal. Air. W. Couper was referee. CARD TOURNAMENT. There was a very good attendance at, the card tournament held on Saturday evening in aid of funds for the Anglican Church. The prizes won were:— Cribbage, Air. and Airs. E. Pemberton: eticihre, Aliss A. Boshier and Air, Ted Beilski. GENERAL NEWS. While splitting kindling wood on Friday evening Air. R. Booker sustained a deep cut on his hand which necessitated medical attention. Mr. ami Mrs. P. E. Jewel) left for Auckland on Sunday evening, where they will spend their annual holiday. Airs. C. Smith : Iso left on Sunday evening to spend a holiday in Auckland. Aliss A. Boshier left on Afonday evening to spend a holiday with her sister. Airs. Grover, at Atatamata.
