The new system of voting by a eross proved successful, the number of informal votes being reduced. from 3351 on the last occasion to 585. LEGION LEADER'S CLAIM SUCCESS IN HUTT VALLEY. Expressing satisfaction with the success of the Legion in the Hutt Valley elections, where it concentrated its efforts, Dr. Begg remarked that each election must convince the electors of Wellington and district of their hopeless disfranchisement on account of the multitude of names and papers. He thought that a general conference should be called at an early opportunity of members of various local bodies in the Wellington area to work out a plan to simplify the whole business. He was sure that the Labour members and others not definitely under the Legion banner would support the movement.
MANAWATU COUNTY ELECTION IN ONE RIDING. SITTING MEMBER RETURNED. ( From Our Own Correspondent. ) SANSON, May 9. There will be no change in the personnel of the Manawatu County Council. Only in one riding, Sandon, was there an election, Mr. J. H. S. Perrett, the sitting member, being opposed by Mr. E. J. Bo water. The result of the polling was as follows: J. H. S. Perrett 112 E. J. Bowater 49 Informal * 2 The personnel of the council is as follows: —Messrs. W. E. Barber (chairman), W. E. Pearce. A. N. Morcom, ID. W. Reid, J. Boyce, j. F. McKelvie and J. H. Perrett. Harbour Board. The voting in the Manawatu County for the election of two representatives on the Wellington Harbour Board resulted as follows: M. A. Elliott 82 W. L. Fitzherbert 80 J. Ho-dgens 52 W. H. Oliver 51 IN OTHER CENTRES Hamilton The Mayoral election in Hamilton resulted:— J. R. Fow (re-elected) ...» 2568 T. Parker ... ... 2211 C. Lafferty .. 569 Of the 22 candidates for the twelve vacancies on the Council two new members and ten sitting members were elected. Waimate Borough George Dash, Mayor for the past ten years, and who also served an earlier term, was re-elected unopposed. The council candidates were also returned unopposed. The borough carried a poll changing the half holiday from Thursday to Saturday by 415 votes to 289. Only 43 per cent, of the electors voted. The only election in the Waimate County was in the Otaio Riding, where H. B. S. Johnstone (chairman), 147 votes, defeated J. J. Grogan, 105, in a hc.vy poll, 80 per cent, of the electors voting. Pahiatua Mayor: J. D. Wilson (unopposed). Borough Council.—J. E. Murphy, A. W. Carthew, W. H. Murch, J. W. Sturton, W. T. Brown, S. K. Siddells, A. D. Donald, T. W. Watts, and F. Britland. There were 13 candidates. Three new members were elected. Nelson City Council. —E. A. Neale, J. Fitzgerald, J. Glasgow, S. A. Gibbs, L. Pettit, H. G. B. Hurst, S. H. Moynagh, S. McArthur, G. P. Russell. The Waimea County carried a £12,00C tar sealing road proposal by 1766 votes to 396. Westport The final results of the Westport Borough Council are:—J. M. Robertson 1005; J. Bird 972; O. L. Nahr 983; E. Taylor 924; E. R. Fox 983; C. H. Thomas 951; J. Stowell 818; J. Radford 943; M. O’Dea 920.
