I KING'S JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS | LOCAL ARRANCEMENTS | A meeting of persons interested in celebrating the Silver Jubilee of King George V was held in Bulls Town Hall vn Monday evening. Air. J. E. Walker, chairman of the Town Board, occupies the chair and there was a fair attendance. Ihe chairman explained the object of the meeting and read a circular letter from the Prime Minister regarding celebrations in general. Mr. Walker suggested that the children should be specially catered for, and invited suggestions. Air. A. K. Drew (Sanson) explained that several meetings had been held across the river, and the result was that the whole of the Alanawatu County had combined to form one big celebration. If the people of Bulls cared to come in with the county, they would be welcome. At the Sanson celebrations, he said, it was expected to have 600 or 700 school children attending, and every facility was available for their entertainment. Endeavours were being made to have a goc-d band there, and eleven lorries had been offered for transport, while tableaux were being arranged, and sports on the Recreation Grounds for the children. Already trophies and donations had been received, and it was suggested to held a seven-a side school football tournament, basket-ball, etc. In the evening a coster ball would be held at Rongotea, where arrangements had been made for street lighting by means of festoons of coloured lights. Inflammable material was being taken to Alt. Stewart for a monster bonfire. Air. Drew was thanked for the invitation, but several speakers thought that it would be better to hold their own celebrations, to include a thanksgiving service, sports on the Domain, and a coster ball. Air. C. E. Vile said that the Sports Club and the Football Club would be prepared to assist. Air. S. Rich (school committee) said that the committee would help, but the amount allowed each child ’was sd, or £2 5s lOd for the whole school, which would not go far. After ilis'ussion it was resolved io hold a celebration in Bulls on Alonday, Alay 6, commencing with the service in rhe hall; after which all would proceed to the Domain, where sports would be held until 12.30, when lunch would be partaken. Football and other entertainment would be provided in the afternoon. The chairman suggested that all present form themselves into a committee, with power to- add. Details were then gone into, it being decided to invite Flock House boys, and pupils of Parewanui, Glyneath and Greatford Schools. To hold the coster ball on Wednesday, Alay 8. To approach the Katana Band to see if it would play on the Domain. Sub committees were drawn up to run the ball, sports, etc., Mr. W. Dean acting as secretary protein.
