With the advent of the air transport companies and the operation of fleets of aircraft over regular routes, the task of carrying out the inspections prescribed by the regulations will be far too great to be performed by members of the New Zealand Permanent Air Force as at present, and with this in mind the department has decided to appoint an aircraft inspector to under* take this work.

In both England and Australia staffs of aircraft inspectors are engaged, but this will be the first appointment of its kind made in New Zealand. The position has been advertised in British flying journals, and the time for application has now expired. ’The position is a responsible cne, and in Britain carries a salary of £6OO per annum. An aircraft inspector's duties comprise the inspection of aircraft, issue of certificates of airworthiness and their renewal, supervision of manufacture, repair and maintenance of aircraft, examining of applicants for ground engineer’s licence, and finally inquiry into accidents. The advertisement of the New Zealand position offers a salary of £350 per annum to the successful applicant, presum ably in Now Zealand currency.
