CARLYLE GOLF CLUB. There was a keen wind on Saturday, but not enough to deter over 50 golfers from attending the official opening of the new Carlyle Club, a ninehole course situated near the Patea beach. About 40 players took part in a Canadian foursome competition after the Mayor (Mr. Ramsbottom, who is also president of the (dub) had driven off the first ball and declared the links open. Many members from the Patea Club were present and were welcomed by the I vice-president, Mr. Anderson. , At the end of the games afternoon tea was enjoyed in the new club house and trophies presented to the —inners, Mrs. Witner and Mr. R. Any player not wishing to participate is asked to notify the secretary before Saturday next. The match, ladies v. men, played during the week-end was a decisive victory for the men, only one of the 10 foursomes being won by Air. W. C Gienny and Air. J. Crawford, whe played for the ladies’ team. AH members played from the men’s tees with 1 an advantage of six biscs, which, on the scores, proved inadequate. PERSONAL.

Miss Luxton has returned from a holiday at Hamilton ami Frankton. Mrs. E. Papps returned on Saturday after spending a holiday in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Mr. and Mrs. Moore were the recipients of some beautiful gifts, also a cable from Home. Miss Ena Tong, only daughter of Mr. and Airs. *P. W. Tong, of Okaiawa, and for many years of Kakaramea, and whose marriage takes place to-morrow, was the guest of honour at a delightful “kitchen tea 1 ’ on Friday evening at the residence of Mrs. Williams, Okaiawa, the function being arranged by members of the Presbyterian Church and Bible Class, of which Miss Tong

and her fiance, Mr. Andrew Ward, are j prominent members. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Tong, Mr. and Mrs. Ward, senr., and a number of Kakaramea friends of Miss Tong. The Rev. Watson, of Normanby, presided over the gathering. The drawing room was tastefully decorated with chrysanthemums and dahlias, and was 1 fille<l to capacity. A happy evening was spent with games and competitions, whilst, the following contributed items: Mr. Fred Kelly, songs; Misses Cameron and Sutherland, pianoforte duet: Miss Annie Hall, Kakaramea, elocutionary items. Miss Tong was the recipient of a large number of useful gifts, whilst Mrs. A. M. Lord, Kakaramea, on behalf of the many friends resident in Kakaramea and Whenuakura. presented Miss Tong with a beautiful silver cake basket with best wishes for health, happiness and prosperity in the future. Musical honours were accorded Miss Tong and Mr. Ward. MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. MAYOR UNOPPOSED. Mr. F. Ramsbottom, the sitting Mavor, was returned unopposed at Patea on Friday. Four of the present council have again offered their services to the municipality in addition to six new aspirants for office. Messrs. C. R. Honeyfield and J.
