SANDON

YOOTBAL LMEETING. TE KAWAU SUB-tNION. A general meeting of the Te Kawau Sub-union was held last evening, representatives of the following clubs being present:—Sandon, Ohakea, Oroua Downs, Rangiotu, Awahuri and Rongotea. Before the commencement of the business for the evening a resolution was passed expressing the union’s regret at the entrance of the secretary (Mr. F. W. Tostevin) to the Palmerston North Hospital and wishing him a speedy recovery. The president of the union, Mr. A. N. Morcom, stated in his opening remarks that the meeting had been convened for the purpose of having a general discussion regarding the welfare of football generally in this district. He went on to say that the Management Committee was of the opinion that there were too many “mushroom” clubs and suggested that these smaller clubs should amalgamate where possible. He considered that it should be possible to field at least four good senior teams, six junior and four third grade teams. Various representatives discussed the suggestion of fielding senior teams, but the majority considered that it would not be possible to do so from their present team. The following resolution was carried: “That it be a recommendation to the clubs concerned that at their annual meetings they discuss the question of amalgamation with a view to the formation of four senior teams.” Dissatisfaction.
