WANGANUI AND OLD BOYS THE ANNUAL MEETING ENTHUSIASM PREVAILS Tho annual meeting of the Wanganui and Old Boys’ Rugby Football Ciub was held last night, Mr. R. G. Taiboys presiding over a large attendance. “We did uol quite get there last year,” said Mr. ±alboys, moving the adoption of the annual report and reviewing briefly the main features of. last year’s activities. “We lacked that punch, but when 1 lc*ok round the room and see the new members and ‘the enthusiasm of the old, we may yet achieve the knock-out we have been looking for. It was Kaierau’s turn last year and good luck to them. It may bv ours next. We were very thankful for the work done by Ken Svenson. Unfortunately, just when we wanted him he bought a farm and went to Hamilton. There is only one matter of regret 1 have, and that is, not getting any further than one senior and one junior team. We hoped last year to have two junior teams, but they faded out somehow. This season I would like to see more done for the juniors. I think we did extremely well in the representative team and we had a good team ourselves. 1 think we can look forward to a good season. We have a good club and we jast need that little bit of extra punch to get there.” (Applause). The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. A. J. Weekes; president, Mr. R. G. Taiboys; vicepresidents Dr. Hutchison, Messrs. J. H. Clay, John Coull, C- S. Swan and J. Hunter; The following were added to the honours list: Messrs. F. K. Turnbull, R. M. Morpeth, H. Hague-Smith, Hugh Speed and L. Pleasants; club captain, F. L. Gibson; deputy club captain, lan Mclntyre; senior coach, left to the committee; junior coach, —. Galvin; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. Grahame; committee, Messrs. 1. McIntyre, G. A. Bullock-Douglas, Duncan Strachan, E. G. R. Steere, M. Clay, Sharpe. In view of the removal of the age limit on the third grade the club is to endeavour to build up a third grade team. The club is pledged to play New Plymouth Old Boys at Wanganui this season and the matter of arranging precompetition games was left to the committee. This was done in view of the fact that Mr. Mclntyre advised that; the Hutt Club would appreciate a match with a Wanganui team. Mr. Lee appealed to ex-players of the club to rally round and assist in the encouragement of the grades. Mr. Galvin said that in Auckland the club he was in touch with kept a list of past players and every so often those players gave lectures. Mr. Steere said that in Napier the old players had all been kept together and given small tasks to keep their interests in the club alive. The more enthusiastic the supporters the better the club. (Hear, hear). He suggested team talks once a week. Mr. Steere’s suggestion was adopted and the opening practice was fixed for Sunday week and the first team, talk will be notified by the committee. The following new members were elected: Messrs. Cave, Steere, Simmons, Oldham, Mitchell, R. Kitney, Davies, Paul, Falconer, Cooper, Rabone and Butler. They were all welcomed by the president.
