BULLS

COUBT SITTING. A man with many aliases appeared before Mr. F. Cutts, J.P., on Monday morning, and was remanded to appear at Palmerston North on March 14. Accused was Sydney Smith, alias Joseph Allen Smith, alias Robert McCarthy, alias Chas. Henry Smith alias George Henry Smith, alias John Johnston, alias James William McPherson, and he will be charged with breaking and entering the residence of Allan Henson, at Mt. Stewart, and taking therefrom the sum of £3 3s 4d, a gob. ring and a purse, the property of Miss Henson. Constable Ede, of Bulls, made the arrest on Saturday last. MOTOR ACCIDENT. Through a small motor truck overturning when travelling on the Great-ford-Bulls Road at about 2.30 p.m. yesterday, three passengers were thrown out, and two injured, one seriously. Mr. “Mac” Homes, of Parewanui, sustained severe head injuries, and possibly a fractured skull. A youth was picked up in an unconscious state, but escaped with severe bruises. The third occupant of the truck, a little girl, is suffering from shock. As far as can be ascertained there were no witnesses of the accident, but it appears as if the car skidded in loose metal, somersaulting two or three times. Dr. Watson and Constable Ede were promptly on the scene, and the unfortunate motorists were carried into Mr. Tonis’ residence to receive medical attention, Mr. Homes being prepared for transport to hospital. Mr. Homes and the youth were sent to hospital. PLUNKET SOCIETY. On Saturday, March 16, a garden party will be held in the Bulls School grounds in aid of the funds of the Bulls branch of the Plunket Society. Stalls will be stocked with produce, cakes and ice cream, and games and competitions will be provided for young and old. WEEK END CRICKET. During the week-end Terrace End defeated Bulls Cricket Club by 46 runs. The Palmerstonians batted first and made 75 (Kempstou 24 not out, D. Rice 15), Reeve taking 7 wickets for 20. Bulls put on 84 (Reeve 36, Hickin 19), McGregor’s bowling average being seven for 32. In their second strike Terrace End added 145 for 5 wickets and declared, Elley making 45, D. Rice 28, and Lyne 21. Hancock (3 for 27) was the best bowler. Bulls began their second innings promisingly, but Zaloum (four for 14), and McGregor (three for 38) trundeld too well, and the last wicket fell at 90, Cutts making 18 and Reeve 1-4.
