SALE OF CIDER
MAGISTRATE’S RULING I Per Frus Aisociation, | CHRISTCHURCH. March 11. No licence is necessary for the salf of cider in New Zealand, provided it is sold in quantities of not less than two gallons and is consumed on the premises. That is the decision of the magistrate (Mr. Mosley) in what amounted to a test case, the defendant being -Bernard Thomas Turner, of Woolston. who was charged on February 7 with selling liquor without a licence. Constables had bought* two bottles of cider which contained 15.48 per cent, of proof spirit. Defendant pleaded guilty. Ho was fined £2 for selling the cider in less than two gallons, but the magistrate refused an order entitling the police to confiscate the liquor seized and the utensils.
