MEETING AT MAXWELL. Maxwell Women’s Institute held its third annual meeting on Tuesday last, Mrs. Morrison presiding. Following is the new committee: Mesdames Blair, N. Hughes, Hood, Morrison, Siddall, Staite, Woodley; Misses Partridge, Siddall and L. Morrison. Mrs. Morrison was re-elected president; Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Staite vice-presidents; treasurer, Miss Siddall; secretary, Miss L. Morrison. The’annual report was read, commented upon by the president, and adopted. The financial statement was also read and adopted. The points competition for the day was a sponge roll, the result of the judging being: Mrs. N. Hughes 1, Mrs. Woodley 2, Miss C. Morrison 3. The bowl of asters: Mrs. N. Hughes. Bowl of zinnias: Mrs. Morrison. The points competition for April will be one bottle each of pickles, sauces and chutney. Decorative competition, a bowl of berries. The hostesses for April will be Mesdames T. Alexander, J. Alexander, Broderick, Misses Zimmerman and Barber Members are asked to have their entries for competition in by 1.50 p.m., so that the meeting may commence at 2 o’clock. The committee had arranged a propramme for the year, which was placed before the members for their approval. It was unanimously agreed to accept th?, programme without any alteration. The remainder of the afternoon passed pleasantly in friendly talk and afternoon tea closed with the singing of the National Anthem. RANGIWAHIA. The annual meeting was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. R. H. Guthrie presiding over a very good attendance, including some visitors. Previous to the commencement of the business of the afternoon, the members stood for one minute in sympathy with two of the members who had suffered bereavement. The secretary, Miss A. Boshier, then presented the annual report and bal-ance-sheet. The report showed a very busy year’s work. A variety of demonstrations and competitions had been held, as well as talks on different subjects. The membership showed a small decrease, but interest was still very well maintained. Thanks of the institute are due the auditor, those who supplifM music for dances, those who made donations of various articles for raffles, those who lent their homes for meetings, etc, those who carried parcels and various things free of charge. At the conclusion of the report Miss Boshier was accorded a very hearty clap. The financial report also showed a successful year. There was a credit balance of over £4. During the year donations rad been sent both to the Dominion and North Wellington Federations. As there were only sufficient nominees for the committee it was not necessary to hold an election, the following being elected: —Mesdames Beilski, Billinghurst, Collie, Delhi, Guthrie, Jones, Monk, Hay thorn e, Reilly, J. Fraser, D. Martin, and Misses Boshier, Wood, B. Morgan and P. Hodge. Subsequently Mrs. E. Beilski was elected president, and extended a very hearty welcome. Prior to their retirement from office the outgoing president, Mrs. Guthrie, and (Miss Boshier) were presented with bouquets as an appreciation of the work they had done for the institute. They were also accorded musical honours. Mrs. W. Boshier, who has been the pianist, was also given a floral token of the members’ appreciation. A patchwork cushion, which was raffled during the afternoon, was won by Mrs. A. Tompkins. Mrs. Boshier presented a. very good report of the group meeting held at Kimbolton on Monday, which a number of the members had attended. The aster competition resulted: Mrs. Reilly ], Mrs. Tompkins 2, Miss Reilly 3. Scones: Mrs Reilly 1. Mrs. Tompkins 2. Mrs. Blaekler 3. For the April meeting it is hoped to have Mrs. Stanley (Apiti) to give a talk on war work. The competitions to he the best Scotch joke, and the best basket of autumn flowers and foliage.
