FARMERS’ PICNIC

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION The first annual picnic to be held under the auspices of the Wanganui Provincial Executive of the Women’s Division and the Wanganui Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union was held on Saturday at Westmere on the properly of Colonel Davis, to whom the committee is deeply indebted for permission 1-0 use his ideal grounds. The day was beautifully fine and all concerned are to be congratulated on the excellent arrangements made. Special thanks are due to Mrs. A. H. McLean (Provincial President of Division)j Mr. T. Currie (Provincial President of the Farmers’ Union), Mrs. J. C. Wickham (hon. secretary;, Messrs. F. G. Bcddon, Leach, Howie, Hawkins, A. H. Laird, E.’H. K. Nicholls, M. Smart, B. T. Dawes and A. Elmslie, who worked untiringly throughout the day. A great spirit of co-uperation was evident everywhere. The Westmere ladies were well to the fore and gave splendid help. The committee wishes to specially thank Mesdames Leach, Mead, A. H. Laird, K. Taylor and. Miss Meads for their splendid help. The spurts were well arranged by Mr. E. H. K. Nicholls and his capable committee, great amusement oeing caused by the tug-of-war, Women's Division against thv Men’s Division, resulting in a win for the Women’s Division. A baby show' caused great interest, the prize-winners being under one year, Baby Smith ana Baby Hedges; over one year, and under two years, Baby Morgan 1, Baby Smart 2 and Baby Littlejohn 3. Special thanks are due to all those ladies who helped with lunch and tea, to Mrs. Everett and Misses L. Watkins, 1. Howie and S. Robinson for running a most successful ice-cream stall, to Master Jim Wickham for help generally. Great pleasure was expressed by all at the fact that Mrs. Polson, senr. was able to be present.
