RUGBY

WANGANUI UNION PREPARATION FOR SEASON ANNUAL MELTING FIXED. The annual meeting of the Wanganui Rugby Union has been fixed for April 5 and various sub-unions affiliated with the parent body are now taking steps to hold annual meetings and nominate the various officers. Alterations have taken place to the Union’s rules quite recently and sub-unions, in making their nominations, will do so under the amendments. It is now provided that the president of the union may be resident in any part of the union’s district. In the past the rule insisted that he should be a resident of the city. Other nominations required from sub-unions before March 22 are: Chairman of the Management Committee (who must be a resident of Wanganui), honorary .'secretary and honorary treasurer (both of whom must be residents of the city), and five members of the Management Committee (all of whom must either reside in the city or live within such distance from it that they will be able to attend summoned meetings without any expense in travelling, hotel accommodation or in any other direction). As in the past, sub-unions will also be asked to nominate a selector or selectors for the representative team. The annual meeting of the union decides whether there should be three selectors or a sole selector, but as there ar© three selectors at present, nominations will most likely be based on the assumption that a like number will be elected for the coming season. In view of the selection of the team to tour Great Britain, there is likely to be phenomenal interest in Rugby for the first three months of the season, and it behoves club officials to become active as soon as possible so as to permit the formal machinery of management to function in keeping with the rules. The Rangitikei Union has already called its annual meeting and the Metropolitan body is likely to fix on March 22. WELLINGTON UNION REVIEW OF PAST SEASON SATISFACTORY FINANCES [ Per Press Association ] WELLINGTON, March 11.
