CRICKET Whenuakura appears to be forming an indomitable position as leader in the Goodwin Cup competition among the country clubs of the Patea dis triet- During the last two rounds Whenuakura has registered a three point win in every match ami in one match a six-point win. BOWLING I’atea suffered defeat at the bands • i Hawera on Saturday on the latter’s green after a most enjoyable afternoon’s sport. The visitors were tendered a very cordial welcome by the Haw-era president, Mr. D. McCormick, who stated that he was extremely sorry to say that their former president, Mr. G. A. Burgess, was at. present an inmate of a private hospital in Hawera. He felt sure all bowlers would wish him a speedy recovery, and a motion to this effect was carried by those present. Mr. McCormick also con gratulated the Taranaki bowlers, particularly Mr. P. A. Bourke, ol the Patea team, on the*r success at the Dominion tournament, Mr. Bourke going near to winning the Dominion singles championship. At. the conclusion of the game Mr. K. Scots n, on be half of the visitors, thanked the Hawera players for their hospitality and the ladies for the splendid afternoon leu. The hope was expressed by players on both sides that the teams would meet again before the close of the season.
