THE PARAPARA ROAD
IMPROVEMENTS DESIRED VIEWS OF LOCAL BODIES For some considerable time, negotiations have been conducted by the Alain Highways Board and the Wanganui County Council with regard to improving the Parapafa Road, or the Wanga-nui-Raetihi Road as it is termed by the Automobile Association. Certain matters, it is understood, hnve been agreed upon by both bodies, but no finality has been reached. The necessity of carrying out improvements to the road has been before the notice of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce and the Automobile Association for some considerable time They are awaiting the outcome of the discussion between the Alain Highways Board and the County Council with a good deal of interest. They : are anxious that the work shall be proceeded with, at the earliest possible date. ' Motions in this direction have been passed at revenv meetings of the chain her and the association. Ot its meeting last evening, the chamber carried the following motion: “That this chamber urges upon the Main Highways Board and the Wanganui County Council, the necessity of arriving at a speedy settlement of the terms under which work may be pro- 1 ceeded with on the I’arapara Road. This chamber is of the opinion that the present financial conditions unler • which the work may bo carried out are so favourable that tho opportunity, if not availed of now, may be lost, for years. ” The following motion was passed re contly bv the Wanganui Automobile Association:— “That this association again emphasises the necessity for commencing work upon the I’arapara Road whilst conditions, financially and otherwise, are favourable, and that whilst aware that negotiations between the board and the Wanganui Conntv Council have not been finalised, urges that arrangements he made to start work immediately.”
