The Rev. and Mrs. Whitby, Upper Aramoho, returned at the week-end from a holiday at Castlecliff. Miss Noel Hawkins left to-day for Hastings to be the guest of Mrs. Strather Davidson for the Davidson— Van Ashe wedding.

Mr. and Airs. Al. Grogan, Westmere, leave to-day for a motor tour embracing Auckland, Rotorua and Taupo. Airs. C. H. Washer and her daughter, Aliss Alolly Washer, Hawera, accompanied by ’ Miss J. MacDonald, visited Wanganui for the races and relumed on Saturday. Aliss Al ay Chipperfield, who has been spending a holiday in Auckland, returned to Wanganui on Saturday. Airs. D. Rush will demonstrate scissor painting and barbola work. There will be a roll call, ‘‘•Suggestions for the Institute, and the points competition is for the best posy of six asters. Farewell Morning Tea Genuine regret was felt by all the D.I.C, buyers gathered at a” morning tea on Thursday to bid farewell to Aliss Jean Urquhart, who has been buyer for the hose and glove departments of the D.I.C. for many years. Air. Thomson paid tribute to Aliss Urquhart’s loyally, service and sterling qualities of a clever buyer and was popularly supported with a round of applause. Air. London also spoke in a lighter vein. Aliss Urquhart suitably relied. Aliss Urquhart is retiring from business after many years and the good wishes of all her friends go with her.

Thomson, manager, spoke of her long and faithful service to the firm, eulogising her qualities of cheer and helpfulness to other members of the staff and pleasing personality which en rleared her to staff ami customers alike. Mr. Thomson asked Aliss Urquhart to accept, from th-e management, as a token of their regard, a handsomely furnished dressing case. Air. Harris spoke on behalf of the staff, endorsing Air. Thomson’s remarks and asked her acceptance of a travelling rug. Aliss Urquhart feelingly acknowledged the gifts and expressed regret at severing her connection with the fir m. Farewells were spoken and the gathering dispersed tn the strains of ‘‘For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.’’
