Wethers and ewes market quiet, and likely to go lower. This report was received on Friday by M. A. Eliott, Ltd., Palmerston North, from Gordon Woodrooffe and Co.. LtiL. Loudon, who quote Smithfield “delivered" prices as follow: Best North Island prime lambs, under 361 b., 7jd; 361 b. to 421 b., 7jd; 421 b. to 501 b., 7|d. Ordinary North Island lambs, under 361 b., 7j‘d; 361 b. to 421 b., 7gd; second quality, 361 b. to 42 lb., 7jd; average 281 b,, 7jd. North Island wethers and/or maiden ewes, under 481 b., 5Jd. Ordinary North Island wethers aud/or maiden ewes, 481 b. to s(>lb., 5Jd; 561 b. to 641 b., sjd; 641 b. to 721 b., sd. North Island ewes, under 481 b., 4jd. North Island ewes, 481 b. to 561 b., 4id; 561 b. to 641 b., 3Jd; 641 b. to 721 b., Now Zealand porkers, 601 b. to 80b., 6id; 'Bolb. to 1001 b., s}d- 1001 b to 1201 b., sid.
Henry S. Fritter and Sons, Ltd., have received the following report from their London office:—Lambs: Trade is slow; larger supplies have caused prices to weaken. Wethers: Weaker values ruling owing to lack of demand. Ewes: The demand is moderate, with prices a little lower. Beef: The market is short of supplies; prices nominal. Pork: There is only a poor demand. There is very little life in the trade. Current prices are as follows:—New Zealand lambs, selected 'Downs, 2’s, 7j|d to 7jd; secondary lambs, selected ’Downs, 7)d to 7gd; New Zealand lambs, 2’s' 7jd to 7}d; B’s, 7jd to 7Jd; 4’s, 7jd to 7Jd; secondary iambs, 6Jd to 7jd. New Zealand mutton, small, 5d to sjd; large, 4d to sd. New Zealand ewes, small, 4d to 4Jd; large, 3Jd to 3Jd. New Zealand beef, ox hinds, 3}d to 4d; fores, 2}d to 3d. Argentine chilled ox hinds, s{d to s}d; chilled ox fores, 3Jd to 3Jd. New Zealand pork, 5Jd to 6d. Australian lambs, 6d to 6Jd; superfine quality, 7d to 7fd.* Argentine lambs 6d to 6Jd.
