KISCH CONVICTED
SENTENCE IS DEFERRED. Received Jan. 21, 9.21 p.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 21. Kisch was convicted of being a prohibited immigrant. Sentence was deferred until to-morrow. Herr Egon Kisch appeareds at the Central Police Court on January 9 charged with being a prohibited immigrant under a special clause of the Immigration Act, which set out that Kisch, according to information re ceived from tho British Government, was “undesirable as an inhabitant or visitor to the Commonwealth.” RULE NISI GRANTED. HIGH COURT AND NEWSPAPER. Received Jan. 22, 12.6 a.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 21. Following Kisch’s conviction by the police magistrate, Mr. Shepherd, application was made to Mr. Justice Evatt in the High Court for a rule nisi restraining Mr. Shepherd from proceeding further. Mr. Justice Evatt declined to deal with the application until completion of the Police Court proceedings U-morrow. However, he granted a rule nisi calling upon the proprietors and editor of the Sydney Morning Herald to show cause why they should not be comimtted for contempt of Court respecting the publication of matter tending to prejudice Kisch at the recent Police Court pro-
ceedings. Argument on this matter was adjourned till January 29, owing to the absence of the Herald’s leading
