JAPANESE INVASION

INNER MONGOLIA'S FEARS SHANGHAI, Jan. 20. bears of a Japanese invasion of Inner Mongolia have been renewed by the action of the Japanese military in Jehol sending an ultimatum to Chinese troops occupying a small area outside of the northern loop of the Great Wall, east of Kuyuan. The Japanese authorities at Peiping admit that Japanese and Manchukuo troops are concentrating in Western Jehol for the purpose of forcibly clearing out the Chinese, unless the latter withdraw, but they deny any intention of invading Inner Mongolia. Chinese officials declare that Japanese action is unjustified as the territory is definitely part of Chahar Pro vince and in any case there are no Chinese regulars there, only the local militia.
