SPEED LIMIT EXCEEDED
HEARSE DRIVER FINED KN PLANATION IN COUR T AUCKLAND, Jan. 19 Eor driving a motor-vehicle on the Great South Road, between Alanurewa and Takanini, at from 46 to 47 miles an hour when the limit permitted for the vehicle was 25 miles an hour, F. A. Cappins was fined £2 10s and costs, 10s, in the Papakura Alagistrute’s Court yesterday. It was stated that the vehicle driven bv defendant was a hearse. In admitting that he travelled at over 2.5 miles an hour, defendant said he was on a journey of 93 miles to conduct a funeral. He had 3} hours in which to arrive at his destination, and, remembering the rough detour route between Runciman and Bombay, he increased his speed on the concrete to gi'e him more time to go slowly oxer the detour route.
