MENACE OF RAGWORT

RAGLAN COUNTY AREAS SOME NOTICES IGNORED. NGARUAWAHIA, Jan. 17. “In the matter of ragwort control 122 notices have been served, but whereas the majority are making an attempt to clear the weed, there arc others who ignore the notices/’ stated the engineer, Mr. K. Af. Wright, in a report to the Raglan County Council yesterday. ‘‘Labour has been placed to clear ragwort on 12 different farms, apart from Maori lands,” continued the report. “To various parts 107 tons of mixture and 13| tons of sodium chlorate have been distributed, but it is apparent that more skilled labour and better supervision is required, for where the mixture is carelessly applied the loss of material and cartage is the result. “The greatest difficulty is in trying to make those settlers whose farms are not seriously affected realise the danger of ragwort.” “There is a great deal in what the engineer says,” remarked the chairman, Mr. H. W. Wilson.
