TENNIS CHAMPIONS
ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND PERRY AND PROFESSIONALISM [ Per Press Aaaociation ) AUCKLAND, Jan. 21. Except that he mentioned that he was glad to be back in New Zealand and that he was looking forward to the New Zealand championship tournament, J. Perry, world tennis champion, had nothing to say about his movements when he arrived in Auckland this afternoon from Sydney by the Monowai. On professionalism, film contracts and his future plans Perry was quietly but firmly silent. To all questions he gave the same answer:—“l am glad to be back in New Zealand and 1 am looking forward to an enjoyable trip.*’ Three Victorian tennis stars, R. W. Ewin, A. A. Kay and Miss Shirley Whittaker, arrived with Perry to take part in the national championship. A popular figure at Stanley Street seven years ago, L. G. Knott, who with N. G. Sturt won the N-ew Zealand doubles title in 1928, also arrived from Sydney to play with his old team mate in the doubles. For several years he lias been living in Australia and, with his wife, has come to Auckland for a tennis holiday.
