MISS BATTEN FAREWELLED
SLIGHT DAMAGE TO ’PLANE ( Per Press Association. I WELLINGTON, Sept. 18. As the crane was swinging Miss Jean Batten’s Moth ’plane aboard the Maunganui prior to her sailing to Sydney to-day, a northerly breeze caught the light craft and knocked it against the crane. It is believed that some ribs in the wing may be broken, and an inspection will have to be made in Sydney before the ’plane takes the air. A large crowd, including prominent aviation officials, farewelled Miss Batten and gave three hearty cheers as the ship pulled out.
