AUSTRALIAN ELECTIONS CONFIDENCE IN BRITAIN (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received Sept. 18, 9.20 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 18 lhe Financial Times features the effects of the Australian election result in the City, describing it as a tonic and a cause of great satisfaction. Several Australian bankers in London said they felt convinced that the Government would be in a very strong position. There was great confidence in the Commonwealth, and given better prices for her principal products, striking developments were predicted.
POSITION IMPROVED
GOVERNMENT CANDIDATES Received Sept. IS, 11-55 p.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 18. Additional election figures to-day improved the position of Government candidates in a couple of the doubtful .seats, but until the counting of preferences is completed, the issue in every instance will not be determined. Further Senate figures continue to favour the Government and the Country Party nominees in four of the six States, who are assured of large majorities. A computation of the forfeited deposits in New South Wales disclosed that the following lost their deposits: Douglas Credit candidates 13, Federal Labour 14, Communists 11, Country Party 1, Independents 2, making a total of 41. The aggregate of the forfeits is £1025.
