KIDNAPPING STORY
AMERICAN EVANGELIST. “ADVENTURES” A MYTH. NEW YORK, Aug. 23. After telling a story to the police of “terrible sufferings” at the hands of kidnappers, the Rev. R. Askew, North Carolina evangelist, admits that his “adventures” were a myth. Askew, who is 28, reported that he had been released after three days of confinement near Goldsboro, North Carolina. For the purpose of adding conviction to his story he sent Airs. Aimee Macpherson a threatening note, demanding that her Angelas Temple pay the £5OOO ransom which, he said, was demanded. Mrs. Macpherson showed the police certain flaws in the ransom note, and in Askew’s sensational tale. - -
