RACING SWINDLE
RECENT COUP IN FRANCE. PARTICIPANT’S ADMISSION. LONDON, Aug. 23. A prominent French amateur footbailer, Andre Mary, has been arrested, says the Paris correspondent of the Daily Mail, in connection with the swindle at the Enghien races last weekend. A horse called Hallecourt won at long odds and as soon as his connections collected their winnings they and the horse vanished. Mary has admitted that he weighed in as the jockey and, unknown to the stewards, his place was taken before the race by a professional jockey. No trace nf the horse or its owners have been found.
