AN ENCOURAGING RESPONSE

FARMER.?’ CLASSES AT SHOW. ‘ CO-OPERATIVE WANGANUI 1 EFFORTS. Due in the main to the universal J popularity of the sheep stewards and ( to the goodwill which the Wanganui J Show now has in the district, a most i encouraging response is being received < to the efforts of the executive of the j Wanganui Diamond Jubilee Show to . .-well the entries in the farmers’ ( classes. These classes are newly added 1 to the Wanganui schedule this year y because of the success they have *] proved to be in the Hawke’s Bay Show, which is probably the leading show in the country to-day. It is the eoneen- j sus of opinion from all sides that this / move is one 4n the right direction and J the response is most encouraging. The j . preliminary schedule (an innovation of j the Wanganui executive) which .was issued about four weeks ago, has done | much to foster arrangements and is be- -j ing followed by other A. and P. associations. Farmers in the same district r T are making arrangements for one lorry to transport the whole of the sheep in that district. Some 25 years ago Wanganui was J the leading sheep show in the North Island, and it is expected that in a - very few years it will again make a e strong bid for this enviable position. '1 The farmers’ classes will do much to c bring thi« about by stimulating the ii interest of all local farmers. Those ii going to the show find it four times 1 as interesting when they have their s own sheep entered; and this is only < a natural for it is not only their vocation h but also their chief hobby. The good- c humoured rivalry between neighbours t also helps to make a good day even v more pleasant. r It has been stated by a world author- i ity that ttie breeding of animals is the f most intricate and interesting science i of all. The farmers’ classes will offer t a chance for the Ryeland and Ryeland t cross to prove itself.
