WAVERLEY

RUGBY FOOTBALL WAVERLEY V. MARIST The match between Marist and Waverley, played on the local domain this afternoon, needs little description, as the visitors had a very weak team. They were completely overwhelmed by the local team. For Waverley Peterson and Thomas played brilliant games in the backs, while Newland was easily the best forward on the field. For Marist one could not but admire the sound play of Narbey and Bowler against overwhelming odds. Buckley and Reynolds showed up best in the forwards. Shortly after the kickoff, from a scrum, Thomas made a good opening, passed to Petersen, to McClenaghau, who scored under the posts. Walker converted- —Waverley 5, Marist nil. Right through the game Waverley dominated the scoring, tries be’ng scored by Dickie, Thomas, McClenaghan (3), Spratt and Cunningham, and a drop by Petersen. For Marist Narbey kicked a goal and Buckley scored a try. An uninteresting game ended in an easy victory for Waverley by 34 points to 6. It might be stated here that the sporting action of the Marist Football Club in coming to Waverley with a weakened team was much appreciated. The teams were:— Marist—Narbev, MeCashin, Hodson, Phillips, Clear' - , Martin, Reynolds, Buckley, Healey, Crutehley, Broome, Johnston, Border, Sexton.
