PLUNKET SOCIETY

MARTON BRANCH. The Martoil committee of the above held its meeting for August on the 13th inst. in the Plunket nurse’s room. Present: Mesdames Sladden (in the chair), Ingle, Stanford, Stevens, Ledingham, Porteou, Tidy, R. Sutcliffe and Miss Cook; also Mrs. Shaw, Mrs. E. V. Wilson, Mrs. Homes and Mrs. Meads of the Bulls sub-committee, Mrs. G. L. Marshall and Miss Anderson of the Turakina sub-committee, and Mrs. Harvey, Mrs. MeManaway and Miss Meads of the Bata sub committee. Applogies were received from Mesdames Purnell, Harris, Holdaway, Bush and Whitford. The members of the sub-branch committee had come for the special purpose of hearing the secretary’s report of the recent general conference, which she and Mrs. T. The conference was honoured by the presence of His Excellency the Governor-General, who came to open it, and by the attendance of Sir William Hunt and Mr. Justice Blair, both of whom spoke at length on the Karitane Products Society. In as few words as possible the secretary gave the gist of what was told of the handling of the products, the sending of them to all parts of the world, and the disposal of the profits, not one penny of which goes to any of the directors,' but all to the furtherance of the society’s work.

The conference ratified the appointment of Dr. Martin Tweed as medical adviser to the council; also of a medical advisory board, consisting of one of the hon. physicians of each of the six Karitane Hospitals, with Dr. Tweed as chairman. This board will be the society’s supreme authority for any departure from our modification of its teaching to its nurses; thus such developments as may from time to time become necessary arc provided for. Considerable discussion took place
