IDr. L. A Lewis (Rotorua) has taken a house in Hertfordshire, writes a London correspondent. He will work at Moorfiol'ds Eye Hospital and on the Continent. Professor James Shelley, of Christchurch, has been re-elected president of the New Zealand Society of Artists, and Mr. R. E. McDougall, of Christchurch, has been re-elected patron. Mr. G. M. Valentine, of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture, who has been in England for 1U months studying grading and other dairying matters, returned to Wellington by the Akaroa. Guests at the New Rutland Hotel during the week-end were: Mr. N. Hawkeswood, Mr. J. T. Bell, Mr. O. Scott (Auckland), Mr. G. A. Alack (Wellington), Mr. L. Smith and Aliss Callahan (Auckland). Air. J. Al. Fisher, who has taken a loading part in the movement to secure the inclusion of Hobart in the itinerary of the South Island-Melbourno steamer service, will shortly visit New Zealand as the accredited agent of the Tasmanian Government. After placing his representations before the Government and the head office of the Union Steam Ship Company in Wellington, Air. Fisher will visit the South Island in continuaitiion of his campaign. Professor Hugh Stewart, principal of the University College of Nottingham, who is at present on a short holiday visit to New Zealand, arrived in Christchurch last week. Professor ‘Stewart was Professor of Classics at Canterbury College from 1913 to 1926, vffith the exception of the years during which he commanded the Second Battalion of the Canterbury Regiment at the Great War. He yas president of the Christchurch branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association in 1924-25. Air. J. L. Rutherfurd, assistant engineer to the Waitotara County Council during the past nine years, has relinquished that position. He was mot by fellow members of the council’s staff on Saturday morning and presented with a leather suitcase and a wcll-lilled wallet. The presentation was macle by Air. N. L. Tyler, who referred to the good fellowship that had always' existed between Air. Rurthcrfurd and other members of the staff. He took the opportunity of wishing Air. Rutherfurd every success in the future. Air. R. Dawson, who has been a member of the Kaierau Football Club for the past season, loaves Wanganui this week to take over a position in the Ordnance Department at Trentham. On Saturday afternoon he was fare welled by members of the club at Spriggens Park and wished every success in his new sphere of life. Air. 'J'. G Bell, president, regretted Mr. Dawson’s departure, saying that he had always been an honest forward and that ■the club would miss him next year. He hoped, however, that they would hear ; of Air.
