Poodles Instead of Husbands A quiet reAienee to women in England who “kept poodles instead oi husbands” provoked laughter at a recent meeting of the executive of the North Canterbury branch of the Farmers’ Union. The president, Air. G. U. Warren was referring to the vaiuc of research work and the shortage of funds for such activities in the Dominion. He added that ho had noticed m an English society journal that the women of England who “kept poodles instead of husbands” had been greatly upset at an outbreak of distemper among their pets. In a verv short time £3O 000 had been raised to study that disease and a curative serum had quickly been found.
