George John Boyd, aged 37, appeared in the Police Court chargeu with obtaining from Laurence Collins £l2 by falsely representing that he *as a captain in the Royal Air Force iad was receiving £6OOO in back pay. The police produced accused’s signed statement, in which he said he was a relief worker. He told Collins, who is a partner in a radio business, that he would invest £lOOO in the firm. He told Collins that he owned his own house and had bought a section to build a theatre. These statements were false, as also was the assertion about £6OOO back pay. He had also falsely represented that his father was Sir Allen B. Boyd, principal medical officer for Great Britain. There were other negotiations. He had received only £l2 from Collins and intended to repay it. He was the father of seven children and had committed the fraud to get money to keep them. H e had in fact been an acting-captain in the R.A.F., from which he was discharged in May, 1919, with a good character. The magistrate remn-.
